The chicks are steadily coming on. Not only are they greeting the arrival of food with faint cheeping, but you can see their pink skin is slowly being covered by a dark grey growth of feathers and fluff.

This
picture, and another at the end of today's entry, shows poor Barney's head
feathers - or lack of them! He is now completely bald above the neck,
an extreme version of a common happening at this time of year.

shows Fluffy's head feathers. She shows no sign of this problem.

The great tit did not enter but seemed to look long and hard. Poor old Neptune is still constantly around and can be heard calling for hour after hour. |
