Suddenly
there was a kerfuffle and we think the chick must have tried to jump up onto
the hole to take a look outside.
It was
obviously not very successful as here you can see it still trying to cling
on with one leg while it falls back ignominiously into the box. Still
better to err that way rather than to fall out too early!
The
chick immediately runs back to the security of the nest cup!
The other chicks seem remarkably nonplussed by this whole episode and just continue preening or dozing or whatever.
The
other chick outside the nest cup looks up. "What was all that
about then?" he seems to be saying.
Another
little of life's lessons is being taught one of the chicks.
Barney comes into the nest box with some food and is greeted by one of the advance guard.
Unfortunately
for the chick, it is too near the entrance hole for Barney to stop to feed
him, other than by perching in the hole itself, and Barney's not programmed
for that yet. As a result, some other chick manages to collect the
meal.
Queue jumpers don't necessarily get the most food!
