Nearly
an hour has passed and all three chicks are still in the nest box! A
chick keeps on popping up onto the nest box hole but is never brave enough
to take the plunge (literally!) and fly.
Here Babe is trying to encourage a chick to give it a try. |
"You
go like this," says Babe!
|
"Do
you think he means it this time?"
|
The
chick eases himself out of the box a little more ...
|
... and flies!
Elizabeth saw it fly high up into the hornbeam tree to which the box is attached. She then lost sight of it. |
"Perhaps
I should go too!"
|
This
time it's Ferdinand who does the encouraging,
|
But
no - it can't quite bring itself to fly.
|
A few
seconds later it is back on the hole again.
|
Will
it fly this time?
|
Yes!
I saw this one go from the bedroom window. It flew right across the
garden to the tall hedge the other side.
Now Scrap is all by himself for the first time in his short life! |
