We are not completely sure, but we think that Claire has laid her first egg! Before I tell you about that, I must tell you what Kate has been up to - or not as the case may be!
When
we looked for signs of an egg in Kate's nest this morning, this was all we
could see. No sign of an egg there.I shall be interested to see in the autumn, how much bedding material Kate has in her nest compared with other nests we have seen. It looks a very filled nest from the perspective of the camera in the roof! |
And
she is still bringing in more nesting material. Here she has brought
more of those black feathers she found earlier (yesterday?). |
From
our perspective, her nest looks a bit of a mess. However, that's not
important and I am sure it will do the job of keeping her chicks cosy - if
given the chance! |
Well,
perhaps she will give those chicks a chance! She is certainly giving
Ben the come-on here! |
Like
most males, Ben doesn't turn an offer like that down! |
It
was all over very quickly - it only took just a few seconds!
|
They
appear to be sharing a few tender moments together. |
Suddenly,
Ben departs leaving Kate staring at the exit hole.A few seconds later she leaves the nest box too. |
What's
this - a great tit looking for a nest site perhaps? |
It
certainly looks that way! |
Whoops
- is somebody coming? Shortly after the great tit flew off. |
Just
under an hour later, he was back for another look. We get attached to
our birds and would be most disappointed if Kate and Ben were evicted from
their home! |
