Bluetit Diary    Dec 2006 (9)

Friday 22nd December, 2006

It's been colder for the last few days, but life for our garden birds has not changed much.  Perhaps the great tits go into the box a bit less but they are still defending it as fiercely as ever!

A bluetit - it looks the same one to me! - takes another peek at this nest box.

He even goes onto the hole to take a better look.

I thought he was actually going in here!

He who hesitates ...

... is lost!

Did the bluetit see the great tit bearing down on him?  This shot is only 4 seconds after the previous one so he could have seen, or even heard, the great tit coming.

Box2 has different problems.  We see more pictures of squirrels climbing all over it than we see birds!

We have no experience of squirrels predating bluetit chicks but this repeated interest in the bird box makes us worried about the prospects for this year.

Still, 40 minutes later a bluetit hops onto the entrance hole.  It doesn't go in though.

No, Mr Squirrel, you are far too big to get in there!

This was later in the afternoon.
