Bluetit Diary    Mar 2011 (3)

Zoe is still keeping the nest box clean!

It's a quarter past eight and Zoe is getting down to her daily chore of cleaning the box following Harry's roosting there.

I suppose it doesn't take long, but I feel that Zoe is a pretty unusual and diligent bird to be so meticulous at this stage of the season.

Away she goes.  I wonder how far she takes her load before dropping it.  She doesn't stop until the box is quite clean.

I'm sure she will make a good parent!

We are still confused about which bird is doing what in Box3.

This looks like a male bluetit inside the box.

I think it's a male as it looks sturdy with a thicker than average neck and shoulders.  It looks more like Will than Harry to me.

Another bluetit approaches the box.

Suddenly it stops in midair and briefly hovers in front of the entrance ...

... before landing on the corner.

It clearly didn't get close enough to see inside the box before stopping.  Did it hear something?

Will has crouched down as though it is expecting another bluetit to come into the box.

I don't think this bluetit knows what to do.

Nor does this one!

The bird outside has gone away and so Will goes to the entrance to see what's happening.

There's nothing to see, so Will is off.
