This was the state of the box before I had removed the old nesting material.
Today John helped me by getting Box1 down so I could remove the remains of last year's nest. Normally after clearing out the worst of the old nesting material, I would clean the box using boiling water. However, as I needed him to remount the box after I had removed the old nest, there wasn't time for this! Still, I'm sure it is a lot cleaner than the majority of nesting sites in the wild!
This was the state of the box before I had removed the old nesting material.
And this was the sate of it after I had removed as much of the nesting material as I could.
I started keeping this diary in 2001. That is a long time ago and much of the equipment is from that time. This includes the bird boxes, the cabling and connectors etc. Some items have been replaced. For example, a couple of cameras have needed to be replaced, but fortunately, when this was required, Boxwatch were still around and they were able to supply replacement cameras. Unfortunately, Boxwatch is no longer trading so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the existing cameras will outlast me!
